Montenegro

It may be one of the smallest countries in Europe. Still, Montenegro is undoubtedly big in every other way – from its endless coastline and dramatic vistas to its splendidly preserved architecture. Montenegro became known as the “St Tropez of the Adriatic” for its unspoiled beaches and glamor. It became popular during the 60s and 70s. Nestled between Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, and Albania lie the small Balkan country of Montenegro. Its name translated to English means ‘black mountain’. On the west of the country, there are majestic beaches and the Adriatic Sea, with charming fishing villages dotted along the rugged coastline. Further inland, the vast plains and high mountains provide idyllic scenery and abutment of outdoor, recreational opportunities. The well-known, fortified town of Kotor is situated in a bay surrounded by the dramatic limestone cliffs of Mt Lovden sheltering it.

Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kotor and admire the well-preserved architecture set in a stunning landscape. Enjoy a day trip to the ancient town of Perast, on the tiny island of Sveti Dorde, and visit its quaint centuries-old church. Montenegro also boasts picturesque seaside resorts where the pace of life is tranquil and laidback. Explore the town of Ulcinj and learn about its rich pirate history. Escape to the beautiful Budva Riviera and enjoy the sandy beaches and nightlife of the enchanting historic district.
